I am a British citizen looking to adopt my Thai step daughter and have received advice from the British embassy that “Prospective adoptive parents must provide us with a sworn statement, attested by a lawyer, that they have sought independent legal advice on their status under UK law and they can confirm that they are no longer habitually resident in the UK.” ….. “If the sworn statement is obtained from an overseas lawyer, the lawyer must also confirm that they have an understanding of UK case law on habitual residence.”
Has anyone had any experience with this?
If so can you let me know how I can find out if I qualify as habitually non-resident and how to obtain a letter.
