    What is endoscopic breast augmentation?

Endoscopic breast augmentation is a surgery that uses an endoscope to assist in enlarging your breasts with breast implants. The use of an endoscope means breast pockets are clearly seen so the dissection of the pockets can be very precise. This minimises bleeding and scarring, is less traumatic (less painful), and shortens recovery time.

Which type of breast implants is recommended?

There are basically two types of breast implants: cohesive gel filled and saline filled implants. Both types come in silicone ‘shells’. We recommend cohesive gel implants as they feel more natural. In addition if you were in an accident and an implant was ruptured the cohesive gel would not leak, hence the nickname ‘gummy bear’ implant. It’s a good idea to ask your plastic surgeon which type and brand he/she uses too, by the way.

Do the implants need to be replaced after some time?

No. You shouldn’t have to replace them under normal circumstances. The implants we use should last a lifetime.

How do I know what the best implant size for me is?

It is mostly up to you. You should have an idea of how much larger you would like your breasts to be. Then during consultation and physical examination, your plastic surgeon would be able to tell you if it is possible and recommend possible and suitable sizes.

    Where would the incision be?

The incisions can be made around the outline of the areola, along the crease under the breast, along the rim of the naval, or in the natural fold of the armpit. We recommend having the incision in the armpit as the scar is high up in the armpit and along the natural crease so it’s not obvious.

Is there a minimum age for the surgery?

We recommend waiting until you are at least 20 years old so that your body is fully developed first.

How should I prepare for my surgery?

It is recommended that you stop smoking a few weeks before your surgery if you smoke, You should stop any blood thinning medication and / or supplements such as aspirin at least 2 weeks before your surgery. Notify your plastic surgeon of any medical condition you have and any medicine and supplements you are taking well before the surgery.

    What about recovery?

You will spend one night in a hospital after your surgery, and you should be up an about in a couple of days. The elastic band that wraps around your chest will be removed around 48 hours after the surgery. We use absorbable sutures so there is no need to have the stitches removed. You will be asked to come back for a follow up five days post-op, however.
