    A) 16kRMB is a lot of money to try and spend in a week and I don’t have receipt for it to change it all in the airport or a bank at once. I’m here 3 more days, moron.

😎 $2400 USD is a large amount of cash to anyone who’s not a pompous prick.

    C) I’m leaving soon enough. But you go ahead and stay right here forever.

Don’t bring your horrible little impish attitude back to whatever country was lucky enough to rid itself of you.

You can find one of those illegal change guys and do it all in one. I know some people have mentioned guys that they can SMS and arrange the exchange. Maybe someone will reply with a tip.

OP you can take up to 20,000 RMB in cash (ie Chinese currency) out of the country without declaring it last time I looked. Perfectly legal. Change it at the airport, or your bank back home. No receipt required. I do it every year.

That sounds very fishy from the restaurant.

Are you sure the RMB cash they gave you is real? Have you exchanged any of it yet?

This is exactly what I was thinking earlier. It sounds like a reasonable scam. I’m going to take some of the notes to the bank and see what they say. It’d be pretty stupid of them. I have the receipt with the mistaken price on it so police would probably believe it was them who gave it to me.

Are you sure you are in Shanghai?? If I would give my wife 16k she would only need 3 minutes to spend it and then ask for more.

If you don’t want to bring it out in cash go to watch shop and get a watch or go to the bank and get a piece of gold.

Around 50g are allowed to be brought out of China. And don’t worry about the amount of cash. Have you ever seen Chinese bringing their money to the bank? They bring it in suitcases!! there. So relax and enjoy the last days here!!
