    Hi everyone,

my husband and me are considering to move to Pudong (as we will have a baby in July). I am now thinking what would be the best area to live in Pudong – sth. near metro line 2 would be great.

Does anyone have recommendations if it comes to compounds or areas in Pudong?

The reason why we consider Pudong is: it s not that crowded as Puxi and my husband works in Pudong Lujiazui. But as we are not that familiar with Pudong yet, I thought I give it a try to ask here.

    Thanks

    Bensie

South of LJZ (Yanlord, Shimao etc) on the river and walk. Or near Sci Tech/ Century park (lots of compounds like Lujiazui Central Apartments where Sharma are etc etc) and take a couple of stops on L2.

Essentially, if you want to live on L2, look for compounds near L2. Once you go out past Longyang Lu you enter a despicable wasteland with nothing other than mosquitos and desolate marshland punctuated by soulless tower blocks. Then you get to Dismaland. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Thumb plaza to LJZ is an arse as you have to walk to Yanggao Zhong Lu metro then change at C. Ave.

Jinqiao to LJZ is a terrible commute on public transport.

Century Park is quite nice for families. You’ve got the park and the Kerry Centre for shopping, a nice evening out, and some half decent restaurants.

Thumb Plaza area would probably be my first choice for Pudong. It has a Carrefour and some more expat style bars and places to eat.

By far the best place for families in Pudong is JinQiao, great housing, and a great number of expat families and expat family activities going on there.

Century Park Metro to LJZ may get very crowed at rush hour but its only 4 stops I seem to remember, then the number of people would double to continue to Peoples square.

From Century Park Metro Station to The Kerry Center is 1.5KM, turn right to Big Thumb Plaza and its 1km extra. Use of an electrical bike makes connecting to a metro station painless and quick for the daily commute.

Skip worrying about the metro commute, just find a place in Lujiazui. Tons of families, no worries about transport, nice compounds with plenty of greenery and great amenities for families, many preschools within walking distance for when that time comes, good options for shopping and dining, and easy access to the heart of the city when you want that.

Which compound works for you will be largely dictated by your budget – places like the Fraser, Fortune Garden or Skyline will be on the top end; Yanlord Garden and Shimao Riviera will span across the range; and you can find (if you’re persisent) hidden gems in places like Summit Panorama, Summit Residence and Chrysanthemum for a bargain.

Yes of course, how silly of me to provide a list of places in Lujiazui where her partner actually works and where there tons of young families and multiple preschool options. Much better they should go to dullsville Jinqiao and live somewhere that will be a buttload of mafan for him to get to work, that’s a way better plan.
